Painted Dining Chairs

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Over at  Project Dollhouse, the kitchen is laid out well and it's functional, but there's no room for a dining table and chairs.

This means the formal dining room, located just off the kitchen,  has to be used for every day meals as well as special occasions.  The plan for the dining room is to carefully straddle the line between formal and comfortable, and one way to achieve this is by combining more formal dining room furniture pieces with chairs painted in a fun color.

This is so lovely.  I love the Chinoiserie styling of the chairs mixed with the French table. And the color palette is so fresh.

That red lacquer finish is amazing!

I like this mix of chair styles that are unified by the turquoise paint.

I hope to have some pictures up for you this week of the progress at Project Dollhouse. Painting continues and the bathrooms are being prepped for tile.

Hope everyone along the East Coast is in a safe and dry place!

Kristan Cunningham's Rental Designed on a Dime

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Do you remember Kristan Cunningham from the HGTV Show Design on a Dime?  She and her small team of carpenters transformed rooms on tiny little budgets.  It seems she is staying true to her M.O. as evidenced by these photos of her rental in L.A.  See more photos, get her budget-stretching DIY tips and read the entire story here.

She claims the kitchen was renovated with a $1,000 budget.

I'd love to know if you remember Kristan from Design on a Dime and what you think of this space.  Let's chat it up.

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Happy Monday!  In yet another effort to reform my hoarding ways, I've decided to part with this two yards of David Hicks' La Fiorentina in blue and brown.  I bought it a few months ago thinking I was headed in one direction and then changed course.

In any case, here's a gander at the fabric in the blue and brown colorway.

And here is more La Fiorentina loveliness. Perfect for pillows, seat cushions, or small upholstery projects.

Pretty Overstock Curtains

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

This may be of interest to you.  There are lots of pretty curtains at Overstock!

Images above from Overstock.com

Striped curtains are a favorite.  They're timeless, fresh and not too formal - even in (faux) silk.

They also have these emerald green silk dupioni curtains -

which, even though I'm drawn to that magnificent color,  I thought might be a little tough to work with.  Then I saw this on Jenny's blog.

Selling this Vintage Pagoda Chandelier

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

You may or may not know from reading this blog that for years the husband and I made a living restoring and selling historic homes.  Since the housing market crash put a stop to that, I find myself with a sizable stash of cool vintage lighting that I had been hoarding for upcoming projects and also because I really like them!  It's time to clean out the closets (and basement) and offer my favorite fixtures to my favorite blog readers (this means you!) And really, these adorable fixtures should be proudly hanging in someone's home rather than stuffed in a cardboard box in my basement on top of a dead cat.  Where's the fun in that?

Today's offering is a personal favorite.  Since I'm fully entrenched in my "all things Chinoiserie" (you too?)  period, it hurts a little to part with it but I feel it's for the greater good.

Charming vintage Chinoiserie Pagoda chandelier - $395.  (Update: Sale is pending )   It has 6 arms and sports its original white paint finish, nicks and all.  Head over to Lowe's or Home Depot and pick yourself up one of these for about 3 bucks.

and save yourself about $1347!

It even has the original canopy that attaches to the ceiling

And now, enjoy how cool it could look in your own place!

Shipping will be in the $25-ish range - I don't have the same connections as Overstock.  And for some reason, the USPS and UPS charge more for a big box that is not heavy.

Email inquiries to thegreenroominteriors@gmail.com  First come, first served.

New Photos of the Shop

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

It's been a while since I've posted pictures of my shop.  Things have been going very well there!   This past weekend I loaded up my space with some new old pieces and I wanted to share them with you.
This big art piece was made by Mallory, one of my colleagues at Yessick's.  It's a mosaic portrait made from tiny squares of colored paper that were laid over an image of the face.  It's mounted on foam board and the borders are wrapped in newspaper. This piece is priced at $295, which probably works out to about $2 per hour for Mal's labor!

Mallory's portrait is above this mid-century cabinet I just updated in a black satin paint finish.  This cabinet is a very good quality piece of furniture.  It's solid wood construction inside and out and has two shelves inside and a hole in the back for electrical wire.  It also has great original detail, with the bamboo and rattan accents and the reeded handles. $185

This is a closer image of the detail on the turquoise glass and brass lamps that are on the piece above.  More mid-century finds, with new silk shades.  Lamps are $89 each. Small glass bird, $6

Smaller accessories on the cabinet.  Oriental tea tin, $5, collectible books, $3 each, small landscape oil painting, $18

Faux tortoise shell on stand, $26, vintage mirrored tray $16

Black painted shield mirror, $79

Set of 3 brass quail?partridges? - let's just go with birds.  $18/3

Pair of brass stag head candle holders.  $38/pair

Narrow Frenchie console with gold detail $199

There's more new stuff on my shop page.  And for heaven's sake, like The Green Room Interiors on Facebook!!
